Trucking is the backbone of American industry. Over 9.5 million people are employed in the trucking industry, including 3 million drivers. In fact, roughly 1 out of 10 American workers is connected to the trucking industry in one way or another. No matter whether the economy is in a recession or growing rapidly, one thing remains certain, trucks and drivers are always going to be needed to keep the wheels of American industry rolling. Trucking generates $346 billion dollars in revenue annually.

The US Department of Labor projects that 493,000 new truck driving jobs will be created between 1998 and 2008. Even during slow economic periods, the demand for drivers is still very strong. Today, truck drivers earn nearly $6,000 more than the nation’s average per-capita income.
