Truck driving can be one of the most thankless jobs in America. Truckers bring us the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the medical supplies we need, but they don’t come close to earning the salary of a professional athlete or the respect of a doctor. But for one week out of every year, the nation’s truck drivers are kings of the road during “National Truck Driver Appreciation Week”, sponsored by the American Trucking Association.

This year, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week runs from August 26 to September 1, 2007.

The ATA puts on “National Truck Driver Appreciation Week” each August to honor the nation’s 3.2 million truck drivers. During this time, trucking companies, trucking associations, manufacturers, and suppliers pitch in to show America’s truckers how much we need them and appreciate their selfless work.

A few examples of how trucking companies are paying tribute to their drivers:

  • P.A.M. Transport, an over-the-road company from Tontitown, Arkansas, will give office staff and drivers the chance to meet and enjoy barbequed lunches of burgers and hot dogs at its terminals during the week.
  • USA Truck, a long-haul carrier based in Van Buren, Arkansas, celebrates “Driver Appreciation Week” by hosting cook-outs and offering sack lunches and prize giveaways to truckers at its major terminals around the country.
  • Averitt Express of Cookeville, Tennessee includes a special “thank you” message to its drivers in its August TeamMatters newsletter, prepares breakfasts and lunches for its associates, and will also distribute special commemorative music CDs this year.

Although the way companies reward their drivers varies, the message is the same: thank you for keeping America running!

We feel that the appreciation and gratitude shown towards truck drivers should not be limited to just one week per year. Without truck drivers, our country would not be able to function. So from August 26 to September 1, and everyday before and after that, remember to say thanks to truck drivers for all they do. USA Truck Driving Schools proudly supports “Truck Driver Appreciation Week” and the 3.2 million truck drivers around the United States. On behalf of USA Truck Driving Schools: Thank you, truckers!
